Each of the dates, just one day in history, changed history.

October 20, 2020, was one such day on the calendar that changed the life of my son and my family. He came home from school after developing dizziness, which later turned into full vertigo and migraines. October 20th marked the start of the medical issues that impact him every day, never going away, always present. Accommodations were made for him to graduate from high school, but he never returned to school. At the time, he was in his junior year of high school, receiving letters from colleges and universities, including ones from places like Harvard, inviting him to apply. College had to be put on hold. His days are now filled with passing time, medical visits, and traveling by car across the country, trying to find the answer to his migraines and vertigo.

This one day in my son’s life changed not only his life but also my family's. We are no longer able to take family vacations, host large family events, or live as we did on October 19, 2020. Thousands of dollars go towards medical bills and travel. My plans to grow Changing Lanes in the new office space we occupied in June of 2020 changed to working from home during the day and being a full-time caregiver for my son.

This one day has brought a lot of heartache, tears, and questions. It has transformed our family.

A day in the early 1980s changed my life, my marriage, and the lives of hundreds. On this one day when I was eight years old, I accidentally stumbled upon the Playboy Channel, a channel normally blocked from our family TV, but unscrambled for one day, and only one day. It was the start of my journey of excitement, guilt, shame, lies, and secrecy. It would take decades before the damage that multiplied from this one day would come to light, and God would transform something so dark into something of hope.

Unknown to me, and everyone else, this one day in the 80s was the start of Changing Lanes. The journey was dark, but when I gave God control of my life, and everything I had accumulated, a new life was found. The date was November 4, 2004.

Since then, God restored my marriage, blessed our family with a daughter, brought courage to share my story, birthed a desire to help others who have a date of regret, launched a ministry, left my job, spoke to thousands, and worked diligently and passionately with hundreds to restore families.

Everyone has one day in their life where something happened, and the course of their life changed. Do you recall the day your life changed?

For many, it was something out of their control. It may have been something seen, a message received, the loss of a loved one, a violation of personal boundaries, or something else.

But as we all have this one day defining our lives, we all can experience one day where God redefines our lives. As much hope or pain that you have accumulated since your day, God’s grace and mercy can be experienced and continue to grow with the one day of giving him everything.

One day can start you on a new path, a new journey for your life.

November 4, 2004, I started my journey to be ready to help my son when his one defining day arrived for him. Our family can hold onto hope in God’s faithfulness and love. The journey is allowing us to ask, “What do you want to do, God?” instead of dwelling on, “Why is this happening?”

Today may be that new day for you. It takes one small step of faith to trust God, putting faith in His faithfulness, and believing His love for you by going to the cross is greater than all the things you have thought or experienced in your life. His mercy and grace lead to peace, hope, and a new life.

May today be your new One Day!
